Noah: What was your dream profession coming out of high school?

Christina: My dream profession coming out of high school was to become a physical therapist. It was something that meant a lot to me, I wanted to specifically be a physical therapist for young athletes.

Noah: where you well informed about the requirements you would need to get to your dream profession?

Christina: Yea so I knew it was going to be a lot of school, I knew id be going well beyond my bachelor’s degree, 4 years minimum 8 years maximum.

Noah: Was the dream career you had in high school different from the career goals you had in year two of college?

Christina: Yes, I went from wanting to do physical therapy to wanting to do sports psychology, I became big on the mental aspects of athletics, when your competing its like there’s nobody out there but you. My freshman year of college I knew some people that got to that level and doubted themselves a lot and I though it would be great to help someone achieve their goals. So I was a track athlete, I threw javelin, In year two I had a career ending leg injury, that changed my mind around, I was still big on psychology but in year 3 I got very close to my rehab/strength coach, through the things he taught me I learned that coming from a mental standpoint, physically helping someone can also mentally help someone, so I went a complete different rout.

Noah: Specifically, what things where quote unquote deal barkers for you as far as changing majors?

Christina: My doctorates without a doubt, it was a lot of school, like I said before to be someone who’s walking onto a team, under no athletic or academic scholarship and going for a doctorate… not that I couldn’t do but it was like a far-out goal. I would have put my parents in a weird position because they would want to help me, but I knew they couldn’t. So definitely getting my doctorates and some of the psychology courses.

Noah: So you said you switched majors, was that in year one?

Christiana: No, so that was my sophomore year. My first semester I was a psychology major and then I switched my second semester sophomore year. My first two semesters freshman year where all prerequisite courses. So everybody has to take these various courses as a freshman. My second year my first semester I started taking psychology specific courses like psychology and statistics and by my second semester I switched an was enrolled on 21 credits, because I had switched not all my credits transferred. Changing to kinesiology, which is just the study of the human body, none of the psychology credits transferred.

Noah: I know you said in high school you where well informed about the college curriculum of your desired major but was there anything that blindsided you when you actually started college?

Christina: You don’t know my mother, like my freshman year of high school I was big into those CSI shows and wanted to be a forensic psychologist. My mother and I took road trips and visited countless schools. I clung to athletics and my very involved mother informed me of everything I would need to know.
